Whether you’re working with minimal lighting, a little forgetful with the water pot or you’re just one heck of a plant murderer, there’s no shame in faking it. Especially, when the alternatives to real plants are so convincing. For those of you committed to plant babies, don’t freight. I’ve got a guide to easy-t0-care for plants here. But, if you’re not looking for a commitment, keep reading to see how i’ve integrated faux plants (SHOCK) into my home decor (and gotten away with it!) .
RIPlant: Why It’s OK to Fake It
We can’t all live that #PlantLife, and, trust me, I started off without about as black a thumb as you can have. After killing one too many plants, I started investing in faux plants and have never turned back. Truth be told, I love them. Sure, now I’ve learned enough tricks to keep real ones alive (and about 50% of mine are real). But, I still keep my faux plants around to fill the empty corners in our houses. I love how low-maintenance they are, and they’re perfect for the rooms that don’t get too much light.
How To Get Away With It
The 50/50 Rule
There is 100% such a thing as too many faux plants. So please, please do not fill your entire house with them. My policy, which has no scientific backing BTW, is about 50/50. Odds are, about half of the plants in my house are real at any given time. That way, most people who come over think they all are.
Placement
Throughout our house I put real (and low maintenance) plants center stage. Think the entryway or near where people will congregate. Then, I’ll add Monstera Leaves, tall faux plants or small accents in the corners. Trust me, if you place the plants right no one will be able to tell they’re fake.
Where To Buy
I’ve spent way too much time scouring the web for the best faux plants, so I figured I’d round up the best ones i’ve found for you. I’ll warn you that they’re a little pricier than some of the faux plants you’ll find, because I can’t stand when they look too plastic-y. And, i’ve found that upping my price point helps up the quality as well. If I had to break it down by store, i’d say my favorites for faux plants are World Market and Crate and Barrel.
The Best Faux Plants:
1. Monstera Leaf // 2. Snake Plant // 3. Pink Rubber Plant // 4. Air Succulents // 5. Bird of Paradise // 6. Large Cactus // 7. Faux Sea Grape Plant // 8. Fan Palm

I NEED to get some faux plants around my apartment, especially in my room! It’s totally lacking some life and depth, even if I would most likely need fake plants because I kill every plant that I touch! Though, I met a girl when I was out for drinks who studied environmental science and apparently Snake Plants are super low maintenance and easy to take care of for people like me who are super irresponsible with plants LOL

I’ve heard that from friends who are much better than me at caring for plants! I don’t have one yet, but it’s on my list to add to the real side!
