While the cookies, lights and time off are certainly major selling points for the holiday season, the thing I love most about this time of year is spending time with the people I love. There’s something so magical about putting away your phones, breaking out the hot cocoa and sitting by the fire with family and friends. There’s no other way to describe this time of year other than magical. But, what’s stopping us from making the rest of the year feel just as special?
Now that Christmas is over, I wanted to take a step back from the everyday annoyances life can bring, and share some tips that can help you keep the magic of the holiday season in your life all year long. Hopefully, these tips will help you out as much as they have me:
1. Give a little, and then give some more
More often than not, we’re stressed. From work, to school or kids it’s easy to focus on ourselves and the pressures we face more than we focus on others. But, the truth is that many of us are blessed with incredible jobs, an amazing family and a beautiful home. So, instead on focusing on everything you don’t have, spend some time giving back to those who need it. After all, isn’t that what the holiday season is all about?
2. Be thankful
As we start to get back into the swing of things, it’s important to remember the important question we often face this time of year: What are you thankful for? I can promise you, that taking a step back to ask yourself that question every few months this year will keep you smiling.
3. Make time for friends and family
I’m the first to admit that more often than not, Netflix and my PJ set sound more appealing on a Friday night than spending hours getting ready for a dinner. But, if there’s one thing that the holiday season teaches me every year, it’s that putting the technology down and spending time with your loved ones is SO important. I’ll take family game night over Instagram any day.
4. Dress the part
Throughout the Holidays it always feels like I’m getting all dolled up. From holiday parties to date nights and more, we’re always on the go, and i’m always looking for new outfits that can keep up. I’ve been all about a red lip, a great sweater and a killer skirt— but, it’s something I plan on keeping up with throughout the rest of the year. I’ve found that getting dressed up, can really make you feel and look your best! And, really there’s no better way to keep the magic going than feeling good.
5. Stop being naughty, start being nice
I’ll admit, we should be nice all year long. But, this time of year I always go out of my way to be nice to anyone I see. From smiling as you pass strangers on the sidewalk to holding open a door, being kind all year long is a great way to keep the magic of the holiday season alive.
How do you plan to keep the spirit of the holidays alive this year?
XO,
K
