Derby Days made me crave a classic Mint Julep. Does anyone else have that problem? I figured it would be a tad selfish to make one and not share!
I’ve never been to the Kentucky Derby, but every year I wish I would have ponied up and taking a trip to see it. Let’s be real I guess I just want to wear a huge hat and have a Kentucky Mint Julep in my hand.
There’s little that’s as refreshing as a classic Mint Julep in the spring. Even though i’m not from the south, living in Florida for a few years taught me how to make this simple cocktail. All you need is some quality bourbon, mint, simple syrup and lots of crushed ice. My tip is to always overload on ice to dilute the drink a little bit, otherwise it’s a tad too strong for me. I guess i’m not quite ready for the derby yet!
I styled these drinks with my favorite new drinkware. I mean seriously, how cute are these glasses from Easy Tiger Co. You have to go check out all their others glasses, the sayings are too adorable!
P.S. My absolute favorite part about these drinks are my mint ice cubes. I make my own ice and place 1 mint leaf in each cube to give the drink a little extra flavor. Guests love it!
- 2 ounces bourbon
- 30 mint leaves
- 1 ounce simple syrup
- lots of ice
- Fill an ice cube tray with water and place 1 mint leaf in each cub. Let freeze!
- Combine simple syrup, bourbon and some ice and stir.
- Pour into a chilled glass (filled with mint ice cubes) and garnish with a mint leaf.
Stay fancy glasses c/o Easy Tiger Co!
